GoGreen Validates Community Peace Committees Across Benue State Under the SPRiNG Project
Last week, the GoGreen team conducted a comprehensive Community Peace Validation Exercise across Zones A, B, and C in Benue State under the Nigeria SPRiNG Project.
The exercise focused on assessing the functionality, effectiveness, and progress of the Community Peace Committees (CPCs) established and led by traditional rulers trained under the SPACE Project (Strengthening Peace and Advocacy for Conflict Resolution through Engagement with Traditional Leaders). These committees continue to serve as critical grassroots structures for mediation, early warning, and peaceful dialogue in communities historically impacted by conflict and insecurity.
Across local government areas, including Katsina-Ala, Buruku, Gboko, Otukpo, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokwu, the validation exercise highlighted the resilience, dedication, and leadership of community actors working tirelessly to sustain peace amid challenges such as displacement, insecurity, and limited institutional support.
Notably, several traditional rulers have replicated CPC structures within their domains—demonstrating strong ownership and expanding participation by women and youth in local decision-making processes.
The findings reaffirm that community-led peacebuilding is most effective when traditional institutions, local authorities, and security actors collaborate with trust, transparency, and accountability.
At GoGreen, we remain committed to strengthening these peace committees, building local capacity, and supporting inclusive, community-driven peace processes that transform resilience into long-term stability and social cohesion for communities across Benue State and beyond.
