Inspiring Young Voices for Peace: GoGreen Engages Pupils of NKST Primary School, Ortese

In continuation of our activities marking the 2025 International Day of Peace, and in line with the Nigeria Spring Programme’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in peacebuilding efforts, GoGreen on September 22, 2025, held a special interactive session with pupils of NKST Primary School, Ortese Community, in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.

The session, themed “The Impact of Technology and Social Media on Peacebuilding at the Grassroots Level,” was designed to spark meaningful reflection among young learners about how digital tools shape peace and conflict in their daily lives.

In a lively and thought-provoking debate, the pupils explored both sides of the issue.
Those speaking in favor of technology and social media emphasized their power to promote dialogue, encourage civic engagement, and serve as early warning systems for preventing conflicts. They argued that when used responsibly, digital platforms can unite people, amplify peaceful voices, and inspire collaboration across divides.

On the other side, those against cautioned that the misuse of technology—through misinformation, online bullying, and hate speech—can fuel tension, spread violence, and weaken trust among community members. Their arguments reflected a deep awareness of the double-edged nature of modern communication tools.

The debate was more than an academic exercise; it was a testament to the critical thinking skills and leadership potential of young learners. Through open dialogue, they demonstrated that even at a young age, children can think analytically about social issues and make meaningful contributions to the national discourse on peace.

This engagement underscores GoGreen’s conviction that peacebuilding must begin early—in classrooms, families, and communities. When children are given a platform to express themselves, they grow into peace ambassadors capable of shaping a more inclusive and harmonious society.

By empowering the pupils of NKST Primary School to explore the role of technology in peacebuilding, GoGreen reaffirmed its dedication to building a generation that is informed, responsible, and united in purpose.

Peace is not the absence of conflict—it is the presence of understanding, empathy, and shared responsibility. And today, the children of Ortese have proven that the seeds of peace are already taking root at the grassroots.
