Capacity Building, Peace Building

Walking for Peace: GoGreen Leads a Symbolic Peace Walk Across Makurdi

In a bold show of unity and shared purpose, GoGreen, in partnership with the Benue State Commission for Peace and Reconciliation and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benue State Command, advanced the campaign for peace through a symbolic Peace Walk across the streets of Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The Peace Walk served as a powerful reminder that peace begins with people—when communities come together to take a stand for dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence. It was more than a walk; it was a movement of hope and solidarity. The event brought together a diverse group of participants, including peace advocates, civil society representatives, security personnel, traditional leaders, youth, and women’s groups. United by one vision—a peaceful Benue—they marched shoulder to shoulder, carrying placards with inspiring messages of harmony, justice, and unity.

As songs of peace filled the air, the atmosphere reflected the collective determination of the people to turn away from division and embrace reconciliation. The campaign underscored the importance of shared responsibility in building lasting peace, especially in a state that has endured years of conflict and displacement.

A key highlight of the day was an advocacy visit to the Honourable Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, where GoGreen and its partners presented the message of a Peaceful and United Benue. During the meeting, the delegation emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of violence, but the presence of justice, inclusiveness, and sustainable development.

The Honourable Speaker warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the commitment of the legislative arm of government to supporting ongoing peacebuilding initiatives. He assured that the House of Assembly—under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia—remains resolute in enacting policies and laws that strengthen peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion across Benue State.

This renewed commitment from state leadership marks an encouraging step towards institutionalizing peace efforts and ensuring that reconciliation becomes an integral part of Benue’s governance and development framework.

At GoGreen, we believe that peace is everyone’s responsibility—and every step towards it counts. Our mission remains clear: to contribute to a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Benue State where communities thrive in unity, dignity, and mutual respect.

Together, we walk for peace, we speak for peace, and we live for peace.
