GoGreen Reaffirms Commitment to Reducing Food Loss and Waste for a Sustainable Future

Every year, on September 29, the world marks the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, a day that reminds us of the urgent need to transform how we produce, manage, and consume food.

At GoGreen Environmental Health and Sustainability Initiatives (GoGreen), we recognize that tackling food loss and waste is far more than saving food—it’s about protecting livelihoods, improving food security, and combating climate change. Every grain, every harvest, and every meal saved represents an opportunity to nourish communities and sustain the planet.

In Benue State—the “Food Basket of the Nation” Our work reflects this deep understanding. Through our pasture preservation initiatives, supported by the Nigeria SPRING Programme, funded by UK in Nigeria and implemented by Tetra Tech International Development Services, we are helping communities build resilience against food shortages, environmental degradation, and conflicts driven by resource scarcity.

Our interventions in bio-fertilizer formulation and climate-smart agriculture continue to empower local farmers to increase productivity sustainably, reduce post-harvest losses, and protect soil health. These actions not only enhance food availability but also ensure that communities remain self-reliant and better prepared to face the growing impacts of climate change.

On this International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, we reaffirm our commitment to building resilient, sustainable, and equitable food systems, where nothing goes to waste and where every resource is valued.

By embracing innovation, community cooperation, and sustainable practices, GoGreen is working to ensure that the story of food in Benue and Nigeria at large becomes one of abundance, balance, and hope.

Together, we can Think. Eat. Save. and build a future where no one goes hungry and no food is wasted.
