The Act of Pasture Preservation and Its Relation to Peacebuilding in Our Communities

In many communities across #BenueState, competition over natural resources such as pasture and water has often triggered tensions and violent clashes between #pastoralists and #farmers. During the dry season, as herders migrate in search of grazing fields, their cattle sometimes destroy farmlands, sparking disputes, loss of livelihoods, and—at times—prolonged communal conflict.

#PasturePreservation offers a sustainable solution to this recurring challenge by addressing one of the root causes of conflict: resource scarcity. By developing sustainable grazing areas and fodder reserves within or near herding communities, pastoralists can settle more permanently, manage their livestock effectively, and avoid encroaching on farmlands. This not only enhances livestock productivity but also strengthens peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

Through the ongoing #SPRiNG Project, funded by the #UKGovernment and supported by Tetra Tech International Development Services, #GoGreen continues to engage with rural communities—especially those affected by farmer-herder tensions—to teach and demonstrate practical methods of pasture preservation.

At GoGreen, we believe pasture preservation is more than an environmental intervention; it is a peacebuilding strategy. Reducing competition over scarce resources and fostering cooperation among community members helps cultivate harmony, stability, and sustainable development in areas once marked by conflict.

🌾 When we preserve our pastures, we also preserve peace, ensuring that communities thrive together in resilience and mutual respect.
