FCDO and Nigeria SPRiNG Leadership Visit Benue to Assess AIPASD Project Impact on Farmer–Herder Peacebuilding

On February 26, 2026, GoGreen had the privilege of hosting the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) team alongside the Nigeria SPRiNG leadership team on a monitoring visit to Imande-Dem community in Guma LGA, Benue State. The visit was conducted to assess the impact of the Agro-Pastoral Integration for Peace and Sustainable Development (AIPASD) Project.

The AIPASD Project, funded by the UK Government through UK in Nigeria and implemented under the Nigeria SPRiNG Programme with technical support from Tetra Tech International Development Services, was designed as a practical, community-driven response to the long-standing tensions between crop farmers and livestock herders in Benue State. In line with GoGreen’s commitment to peacebuilding, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods, the project promotes cooperation, dialogue, and shared economic opportunities as pathways to lasting peace.

During the visit, the FCDO and SPRiNG delegation, led by Nina Mason and Ukoha Ukiwo, engaged directly with beneficiaries, community leaders, and project participants. Testimonies from both farmers and herders highlighted a remarkable transformation in community relations. Beneficiaries reported significant reductions in tensions, improved communication channels, increased agricultural productivity, and strengthened social cohesion. Many noted that where distrust and conflict once prevailed, there is now dialogue, cooperation, and shared economic progress.

The monitoring visit provided an important opportunity to validate outcomes, reflect on lessons learned, and reaffirm the collective commitment of all partners to strengthening community resilience across Benue State. The positive feedback and observable results demonstrate that integrated, community-based peacebuilding initiatives such as AIPASD can effectively address the root causes of conflict while promoting sustainable livelihoods.

At GoGreen, we remain committed to scaling impactful interventions that foster peaceful coexistence, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development across vulnerable communities in Benue State and Nigeria.

Together, we are building sustainable pathways to peace—one community at a time.
