GoGreen Explores Indigenous and Cultural Approaches to Social Behavior Change at SBCC Summit 2026 in Panama
Learning from Communities: The Power of Local Knowledge in Social and Behavior Change
The opening session of the SBCC Summit 2026 focused on Local, Ancestral, and Cultural Approaches to Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC)—a powerful reminder that sustainable change begins with understanding and valuing the people we seek to serve.
One of the most important lessons from the session was that lasting social and behavior change cannot be achieved through one-size-fits-all solutions. Meaningful impact occurs when communities are recognized as custodians of rich indigenous knowledge, cultural practices, and lived experiences that shape their realities and influence decision-making.
The discussions reinforced that effective SBCC is not simply about delivering messages—it is about listening deeply, respecting local values, building trust, and co-creating solutions with communities. When people are actively involved in designing and implementing interventions, change becomes more relevant, sustainable, and transformative.
This learning strongly aligns with GoGreen’s approach to community engagement, peacebuilding, climate resilience, and sustainable development. We remain committed to designing culturally responsive and community-driven programmes that empower people to lead the change they want to see.
Beyond the insightful sessions, our team also visited the Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI) exhibition booth and participated in their interactive challenge. We completed 80%, 90%, and 55% of the missions, earning gold medals and exciting prizes while engaging with fellow SBCC professionals from around the world.
As we continue participating in the SBCC Summit 2026 in Panama, we look forward to sharing more lessons, innovations, and opportunities that will strengthen our work in communities across Nigeria.
