GoGreen Strengthens Climate–Conflict Adaptation Strategies at International Alert Learning Session in Benue State
On April 8, 2026, GoGreen participated in an Inclusive Consultative Learning Session on Conflict-Sensitive Climate Adaptation Practices, organized by International Alert under the Powering Peace Through Climate Action Project (PPCA II).
The session provided a critical platform to deepen understanding of the climate–conflict nexus, particularly within fragile contexts such as Benue State. A key takeaway was the recognition that while climate change may not directly cause conflict, it significantly intensifies existing vulnerabilities—including land pressure, water scarcity, and livelihood insecurity. When these challenges are not effectively managed, they can escalate tensions and destabilize already vulnerable communities.
For GoGreen, this learning engagement was both timely and highly relevant. Our work operates at the intersection of environmental sustainability, community health, and resilience building, and the training reinforced the need to design interventions that are not only technically sound but also conflict-sensitive, inclusive, and context-specific.
Participants explored key principles such as the “Do No Harm” approach, the importance of inclusive participation—especially for women, youth, and marginalized groups—and the need to identify local dividers and connectors when designing community interventions. These insights strongly align with GoGreen’s commitment to community-led development and participatory planning.
The session also reaffirmed a core belief: sustainable solutions are most effective when co-created with the communities they are meant to serve. As climate risks continue to intensify, integrating peacebuilding, inclusivity, and adaptive learning into climate action is no longer optional—it is essential.
We extend our appreciation to International Alert and partners including Global Center on Adaptation and UN Environment Programme for fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening collective efforts toward building resilient and peaceful communities.
