Imande-Dem Records Strong Community-Led Conflict Resolution as AIPASD Project Prepares for Year 3

Community Ownership Sustains Peacebuilding Gains in Imande-Dem

As part of preparations for Year 3 of the AIPASD Project under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) Programme, the GoGreen team continued its community listening visits to assess how investments made during the first two years are being sustained at the local level.

Our visit to Imande-Dem Community in Guma Local Government Area provided one of the strongest demonstrations yet of the power of community ownership. The Community Peace Committee (CPC) has continued to organize regular peace dialogue meetings, mediate disputes between conflicting parties, and strengthen cooperation among residents without depending on continuous external support.

Particularly encouraging was the community’s report that Imande-Dem had recorded the highest number of disputes successfully resolved through its community-led peace structures among the participating communities. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of the locally owned conflict-resolution mechanisms strengthened through the AIPASD Project.

The results demonstrate that the CPC is not only sustaining the gains of the programme but also increasing community confidence in dialogue, mediation, and peaceful engagement as the preferred approaches to resolving disputes.

This is what sustainable peacebuilding looks like: local structures taking responsibility, communities applying acquired knowledge, and residents working together to prevent tensions from escalating into conflict.

As the AIPASD Project enters its third year, GoGreen remains committed to building on these successes by strengthening existing peace structures, supporting locally led initiatives, and expanding sustainable approaches that enable communities to prevent conflict, resolve disputes peacefully, and build long-term resilience.

When communities own the process, peace becomes stronger, more trusted, and more sustainable.
