Lasting Peace Is Strongest When Women’s Voices Are Heard

The intentional inclusion of women in community peacebuilding efforts in Zongo Community is a powerful example of what inclusive and sustainable peace can look like.

What stood out most during our engagement was the community’s unwavering commitment to sustaining locally led peacebuilding initiatives despite ongoing challenges. Equally inspiring was the strong participation and leadership of women within the Community Peace Committee (CPC) and the wider peacebuilding process.

Women are not merely attending CPC meetings—they are actively contributing to dialogue, shaping decisions, sharing valuable community perspectives, and ensuring that peacebuilding efforts reflect the needs and experiences of diverse groups.

Their growing representation demonstrates that peace is stronger and more sustainable when women are empowered to lead alongside men. Women’s meaningful participation is strengthening community ownership, promoting inclusive decision-making, improving communication, and helping to rebuild trust across the community.
