Communities Prove That Peace Is Sustainable When They Lead

At Imande-Akpo Community, we witnessed powerful evidence of what becomes possible when communities are equipped and trusted to lead their own peacebuilding processes.

Despite ongoing challenges, the Community Peace Committee (CPC) continues to mediate local disputes, convene meetings independently, promote dialogue, and strengthen peaceful coexistence among community members.

Residents also reported improved trust, better communication, and stronger collaboration across the community. These outcomes demonstrate that the knowledge, structures, and relationships established during Years 1 and 2 of the AIPASD Project are not only enduring but are being actively applied to address emerging challenges.

This is what sustainable peacebuilding looks like: empowered communities taking ownership of their peace, strengthening local accountability, and leading their own development.

The continued commitment of the Imande-Akpo CPC shows that meaningful impact is achieved when communities move from being project participants to becoming confident leaders and custodians of the peacebuilding process.

As we advance into Year 3, GoGreen remains committed to strengthening and expanding locally led initiatives that build resilient, peaceful, inclusive, and thriving communities across Benue State.
