AIPASD Year 3: Community Peace Committees Strengthen Early Conflict Prevention in Tse-Akpuku and Ugbugh

Preventing Conflict Begins Long Before It Escalates

As part of our Year 3 AIPASD Project community listening visits under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) Programme, the GoGreen team met with members of the Community Peace Committees (CPCs) in Tse-Akpuku and Ugbugh communities.

One of the most encouraging findings was that the CPCs convened as many as six meetings within a single month to mediate disputes, facilitate dialogue, address emerging concerns, and strengthen peaceful relationships among community members.

This is more than a number—it is compelling evidence of communities taking proactive steps to identify tensions early and prevent disagreements from escalating into wider conflict. It reflects responsible local leadership, strong community ownership, and the growing sustainability of grassroots peacebuilding structures.

Through regular meetings and timely interventions, CPC members are creating safe spaces for dialogue, rebuilding trust, and helping residents resolve disputes peacefully. Their continued commitment demonstrates that the knowledge and practical skills strengthened through the AIPASD Project are being applied beyond formal project activities.

The greatest impact of the AIPASD Project is not measured only by the activities delivered. It is also reflected in the confidence, leadership, and capacity communities now possess to guide and sustain their own peacebuilding journeys.

As we advance through Year 3, GoGreen remains committed to supporting these locally led structures and strengthening their ability to prevent conflict, promote social cohesion, and build resilient communities.

When communities own the process, peace becomes stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable.
