AIPASD Year 3: Daudu Community Demonstrates Local Ownership and Sustainable Peacebuilding in Benue State

Empowered Communities Are the Foundation of Lasting Peace

As our journey into Year 3 of the AIPASD Project continues, the GoGreen team visited Daudu Community in Guma LGA on July 8, 2026, to engage with members of the Community Peace Committee (CPC) and reflect on the progress achieved through locally led peacebuilding.

One message from the meeting stood out. Speaking on behalf of the community, Zaki Oliver Chado shared:

“Having been equipped, we are able to function with or without GoGreen.”

For us, this statement is more than encouraging feedback—it is a powerful measure of impact and sustainability.

The ultimate goal of community-based peacebuilding is not to create permanent dependence on external support. It is to equip local structures with the knowledge, confidence, practical skills, and leadership capacity required to prevent conflict, facilitate dialogue, resolve disputes, and sustain peaceful coexistence independently.

The experience of the Daudu Community Peace Committee demonstrates what meaningful sustainability looks like: communities owning the process, leading change, strengthening local accountability, and safeguarding peace long after external interventions have ended.

It also confirms that investments made during the earlier phases of the AIPASD Project are translating into stronger grassroots institutions and greater community resilience. By applying the skills gained, CPC members are becoming trusted local actors capable of responding to emerging tensions and supporting constructive dialogue.

As we advance into Year 3, GoGreen remains committed to strengthening local capacity, promoting inclusive leadership, and supporting community-driven systems that can endure beyond the project lifecycle.

Lasting peace is not simply delivered to communities—it is built, owned, and sustained by empowered communities.
